NI AND NI-CO SPINEL CATALYSTS IN THE PARTIAL OXIDATION AND STEAM REFORMING OF METHANE

Catalytic partial oxidation (CPO) and steam reforming (SMR) of methane have been studied over deficient Ni and Ni-Co spinels. The catalysts were prepared by high temperature calcination (1398 K, 10h) of impregnated γ-Al2O3, followed by in situ high temperature reduction (1073 K, 2h) before testing. Temperature programmed methane dissociation illustrated the necessity of reduction, and the temperature at which methane was activated over reduced samples (550-650 K), was in accordance with reports in literature. Close to equilibrium yields were obtained during CPO, and good to excellent stability was found during 10-15 h of SMR. The catalysts were characterized by H2-chemisorption, XRD, BET, SEM and TPR.
