Driven by the recent developments in computing and communication technology and in order to overcome the ascertained drawbacks of performances of centralised scheduling systems, an increasing interest has been addressed by research community on distributed scheduling based on loosely coupled problem-solving entities. This paper presents a structured market-like model that can be adopted for complex job-shop scheduling problems. In particular, the most meaningful algorithms used within the bidding process between resource agents and part agents are widely described and their behaviour analysed. Preliminary numerical results are eventually provided.
