6,6-Bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine (2) and its complexes with nickel(II) and cobalt(II) have been examined by means of cyclic voltammetry. Employment of the electrogenerated nickel(I) complex (3) as a catalyst for the reduction of 1-iodooctane leads to modification of the ligand attached to nickel(II).
