Biodegradable polymers are gaining great importance in biomedical applications compared to their biostable analogues, because of long-term biocompatibility and re-surgical issues. Consequently, these materials are the preferred candidates for a number of applications including controlled drug delivery, gene therapy, bionanothechnology and tissue engineering.1 Because of the characteristic role of nitric oxide (NO) as one of the most significant and principal ubiquitous biological mediators, incorporating functional moieties capable for releasing NO in-vivo under physiological conditions increases the hemocompatibility of these materials by reducing thrombogenicity.2 Besides, the inflammatory response of the body towards implanted materials and there by resulting biofouling can also be prevented with the anti-inflammatory capability of the releasing NO.
