Considering the complexity of organic coating systems, coating development is a lucrative field for the application of the combinatorial methodology. Over the past few years, a number of reports have been published involving the application of combinatorial methods to the development of organic coatings. Based on an extensive collaboration with Symyx Technologies Incorporated and The Office of Naval Research, North Dakota State University has implemented a combinatorial process for the development of new marine coatings.
