Supramolecular chemistry has become an extremely powerful tool to control materials properties. Indeed, the non-covalent nature of the supramolecular bonds gives rise to two highly important properties: stimuli responsiveness and reversible character. These concepts have been applied to the so-called supramolecular polymers. Supramolecular polymers are generally obtained by assembling ditopic compounds (either small molecules or telechelic "classical" polymers) into longer chains in a polycondensation like approach with the help of intermolecular forces, mainly hydrogen bondingor metal-ligand interactions. The concept can also be used to link different polymer blocks giving rise to the so-called supramolecular block copolymers.
