Living radical polymerization (LRP) controls molecular weight and polydispersity via a reversible termination of propagating chains. While catalytic systems based on late transition metals were successful in LRP mediated by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) dissociation-combination (DC) and degenerative transfer (DT) and initiated from activated halides or thermal initiators, a broader selection of initiators and catalysts will enlarge the scope of LRP. The paramagnetic Cp2Ti(III)Cl complex, inexpensively synthesized in situ by the Zn reduction of Cp2Ti(IV)Cl2 4a,bis a mild one electron transfer agent and catalyzes a variety of radical reactions including epoxide radical ring opening (RRO) and aldehydes SET reduction.
