Electrorheological(ER)fluids are dispersions of polarizable particles or semi-conducting particles with diameters in the range of several micrometers in insulating base fluids.They represent a unique class of electroactive materials that exhibit drastic change in rheological and electrical properties(e.g.,viscosity,yield stress,and dielectric constant)in the presence of an applied electric field(E).
