The development of WebTV may fulfil the promise of a home network computer by utilising a medium already in widespread use. However, a) use for non-entertainment may be incompatible with existing intrinsic motivations; b) group viewing and power differentials in programme choice may mean that female group members, often buying decision makers, may find access difficu c) interface design may compromise privacy. The significance of these factors is explored through an extended and adapted Technology Acceptance Model for use of a TV banking service. In the final model, arousal, gender, ease of use, privacy and intention show direct significant effects on behaviour. The results indicate a) the addition of intrinsic motivations is valid and affective motivations impact the non-entertainment use of TV; b) interaction control impacts on intentions and c) group viewing may modify frequency of use of TV Home Banking but motivation is maintained.
