Barley yellow dwarf is a disease caused by a complex of viruses recently reclassified as Barley yellow dwarf luteovirus (serotypes BYDV-PAV and BYDV-MAV) and Cereal yellow dwarf polerovirus (CYDV-PvPV) (D'Arcy et al, 1999). This disease has a wide host range and a worldwide distribution, and is regarded as the most significant viral pathogen affecting small grain cereals in the world, including wheat, barley, oat and triticale.
