Energy management programmes can be successfully implemented in the energy intensive industries by having a separate set-up and involvement of operating personnel at all levels. Periodical energy audits help in identification of areas of energy wastage. Further to have quick gains of energy conservation measures, help may be sought from those who have the expertise. The philosophy behind energy conservation measures at Hindalco Alumina Refinery has been identification of improvement areas and implementing remedial measure alongwith conversion of energy intensive process into energy efficient process by absorption of suitable technologies. This led to an achievement of reducing total energy consumption by 42.85% since 1986.
