EXTENSION OP T-MATRIX TO SCATTERING OF ELECTROMAGNETIC PLANE WAVES BY GENERAL 3D DIELECTRIC PARTICLES: APPLICATION TO HEXAGONAL ICE COLUMNS AND PLATES
The T-matrix theory of Waterman has previously been implemented for axisymmetric particles. In this paper it is extended to general 3D dielectric particles. The implementation of the general T-matrix algorithm is tested by comparing scattering and absorption properties for a variety of particle shapes such as the sphere, circular cylinder, cube and hexagonal column with other electromagnetic methods. Results are also presented for the randomly oriented (analytic averaging) hexagonal column extinction efficiency and phase function up to size parameters of about 22 and 30 respectively.
