Fracture and the Structure of Silica

摘要

This paper traces the historical development of our understanding of hte phenomenon of environmentally enhanced crack growth in glasses. Key experimental findings as well as models of the crack growth process are pointed out. A second theme of the paper is the demonstration of both the direct and indirect contributions of Dr.Larry Hench and his coworkers to the science of glass fracture.
