A difficult balance between simple and effective: some specific issues in the evaluation of protective coatings for Cultural Heritage metallic surfaces

In the coatings industry it is well known the role of several parameters in the effectiveness of protective treatments, such as: - mechanical (e.g. roughness) and chemical (e.g. conversion coatings) surface preparation; - application methods; - coating thickness. In the field of cultural heritage several constraints apply which have gradually been better focused over the years.
