Atmospheric corrosion field exposures within ICP Materials, the "International Co-operative Programme on Effects on Materials including Historic and Cultural Monuments" started in 1987 when acid rain was high on the agenda and SO_2 was the main pollutant responsible for atmospheric corrosion of many materials. This program is still very active - a new exposure will start in 2017 - but the focus in atmospheric corrosion research has shifted during the years, from acidifying pollutants to climate change and particulate matter. Materials included have been traditional structural metals (carbon steel, zinc, copper and aluminium) as well as other metals (i.a. bronze, weathering steel, stainless steel and many others) but also other materials such as stone materials, polymer materials and glass materials.
