CHARACTERISTIC AND EXPERIENCE OF THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE OF TSQ-1 CONCRETE FACED ROCKFILL DAM

Construction of the 1800x10~4 m~3 TSQ-1 concrete faced rockfill dam on the nanpanjiang river in China, was completed in May 2000. Major design and construction and performance features of the project are described in the article. The Upper Tianshengqiao Hydropower Project (TSQ-1 project) is located on the Nanpanjiang river which is the border of Guizhou province and Guangxi Zhung Autonmous Region in China south-western. The project consists of an 178m high concrete faced rockfill dam, four power tunnels and penstocks, a surface power station, an intermediate outlet tunnel and an open cut spillway. The installed capacity of the power station is 1200MW. South corporation of State Power Corporation has taken charge of constructing and managing the project. The project started in 1991, and the first generating unit was commissioned in December 1998. The embankment of the dam started in February 1996, the embankment and concrete of face slab was completed in May 1999.
