The slide bearings of turbine and generator rotors always produce energetic losses that are caused by friction in the hydrodynamic oil film. The effort of the producers of these equipment is to increase machine efficiency. One of possibilities for mechanical efficiency improvement is the reduction of the friction losses in bearings. This paper presents the possibilities for improvement of the design of classical slide bearings with a lemon-shaped bore, which can reduce the friction losses. The basic feature of the innovation is in the removing of the bearing parts that do not contribute to the bearing carrying capacity. Further to this, directly related measure, to utilise the principle of the streamlined direct, spray lubrication of both bearing halves is employed. A comparison of the theoretical calculation results against the results of experiments that were run on the experimental equipment for the bearing with diameter 0,43 m are also presented in this paper. They may be reduced, with the presented modifications, the friction losses about by 15 %. The saving gains are more expressive for the larger bearing diameters.
