We have conceptualized, designed, and developed a discrete event simulation based "on-line near-real-time" dynamic schedule optimization system. Simulation is initiated from the real time status of the facilities, orders, work-in-process, and manufacturing system, at a desired frequency of several times a day. The simulation run with integrated optimization algorithms, defined rules and policies then gives a repeatable performance and desired schedule that should be followed in the test operations in near term. The system has been implemented and is in use at Infineon Technologies AP PTE LTD. The impact of the system is expected to be the achievement high delivery accuracy, improved machine utilization, narrow cycle time distribution, reduction in the time that planners and manufacturing personnel spend on scheduling, and more predictable and highly repeatable manufacturing performance. In addition it enables managers and senior planners to carry out "what if analysis to plan for future.
