The 2005 AISC Specification and 13~(th) Edition Steel Construction Manual reflect the latest advances in the stability analysis and design of structural steel buildings. Because of changes in the 2005 Specification as well as the many considerations and complexities associated with the stability design of general frame structures, AISC has commissioned the development of a Guide to the Stability Design of Steel Buildings. This Stability Design Guide is due for public release in mid 2007. The current paper highlights the key approaches for stability design of frames in the 2005 AISC Specification and provides an overview of the presentation of these methods in the new Slabilitv Design Guide. Several examples are provided to illustrate the methods.
