Regional natural gas: Contribution of natural gas to regional development in Australia

Australia's gas pipeline infrastructure is at an early stage of development. The fist transportation of natural gas occurred about thirty years ago. A key to developing Australia's regions is the availability of low priced and secure energy such as natural gas. The lower carbon intensity of natural gas also provides an environmental benefit. The Australian gas industry is keen to develop new markets in regional Australia, and seeks an infrastructure policy framework that maximises financial incentives to invest in the regions and minimises impediments to growth.
