COLORFLEX~(TM)-A NEW COLORIMETER TO DETERMINE ORANGE JUICE COLOR

Citrus juice color is an important juice quality criterion. A new colorimeter, ColorFlex~(TM), was adapted recently for the determination of orange juice color. In this study we analyzed the relationship between the color numbers measured by ColorFlex~(TM), Hunter~(TM) D45D2 citrus colorimeter and Macbeth 3100~(TM) reflectance spectrophotometers. Color numbers were measured at three juice quality laboratories located in Central Florida. The statistical analyses show a significant correlation in color numbers between ColorFlex~(TM), Hunter~(TM) D45D2, and Macbeth 3100~(TM) colorimeters. However, regression analysis results indicate that color numbers are not equal between the different colorimeters used.
