Trichoderma hanianum isolated from the soil of Coorg region is being used as an effective biocontrol agent in the management of quick wilt of pepper, rhizome rot of ginger, root rot of Coorg mandrins, nursery and many other seed and soil borne diseases. 7. harzianum is being multiplied on a large scale on decomposed coffee husk and around 4 tonnes of biocontrol agent has been marketed in the current year. Trichoderma culture is applied by mixing with pre-wetted neem cake or farmyar manure @ 1 kg/100kg and incubated for 2 days. Premonsoon application of this mixture @ 5 kg/vine for the vines below 10 years and 10 kg/vine for the vines older than 10 years has given good control of wilt disease in pepper. Since neem cake is known for its nematicidal and insecticidal properties, application of biocontrol agent along with neemcake is found to be more beneficidal properties, application of biocontrol agent along with neemcake is found to be more beneficial in the management of root rot diseases T. harzianum multiplied on neem cake when analysed for mineral nutrient content has shown an increase in N, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu with an increase in pH and an EC of 2.40 millimhos. Use of T.harzianum as biocontrol agent besides providing protection agent root rot organisms, also provides extra nourishment to the plants. The coir pith as substrate for T. harzianum did not support growth of fungus. However, coirpith substrate degraged by mushroom fungi supported good growth of T. harzianum.
