The synthesis of highly ordered, ultrathin coatings with molecularly controllable surface properties is a route to modifying electrodes with possible applications to electrocatalysis. One approach is the layer-by-layer deposition of oppositely charged species based on electrostatic interaction to fabricate composite films (1, 2). In this study, the positive sites are provided by polyamidoamines (PAMAM), which are highly branched dendritic macromolecules. PAMAM of 4*-generation (G4) has 64 surface amine groups that can be positively charged by protonation at acidic condition. The anions are polyoxometalates (POMs). This distinctive class of inorganic metal-oxygen cluster compounds has found annlication to many fields such as analysis, catalysis, biochemisty and materials sicences.
