摘要

The high levels of environmental polution in densely populated urban centers cause severe material and health problems.The depletion of fossil fuels,the dramatic effects of acid rain and the greenhouse effect on local ecosystems and on the planet as a whole are important reasons to look for energy sources that are clean,silent,efficient and present a low cost.Fuel cells,which operate with reactant gases and an appropriate ionic conductor,are promising energy converters that may contribute to overcome those problems.
