Electrochemical measurements and thermodynamic analysis have been coupled with atomic force and scanning tunnelling microscopies to provide a detailed description of SDS adsorption at the Au(111) interface.At potentials close to the open circuit potential (-100 mV vs SCE),SDS molecules were determined to exist in an array of hemi-cylindrical stripes.At potentials further positive of -450 mV vs SCE the surfactant molecules condense to form a compact film on the electrode surface.
