This paper is a short introduction to robotised materials handling in general, and robotised postal materials handling in particular. A survey of the existing robot concepts is presented, and evaluated in terms of performance.The provisions for modern quality assurance and traceability is illuminated, and related to the present situation in postal industry.The paper finally concludes a few future possibilities and demands in a visionary way.
