TESTING OF GT8C2 SERIAL NUMBER ONE AT THE ALSTOM POWER GT TEST FACILITY, BIRR, SWITZERLAND

Construction at the Birr test facility started in late summer of 1999 with the goal of installing and testing the first GT8C2 in Switzerland before delivering any GT8C2 at a customer's site. Hot commissioning and consequently testing of the unit started less than half a year after the start of construction. Within a few days from motor roll idle was reached without any problems worth mentioning. Good run up characteristics of the gas turbine and excellent operational behavior of the machine were confirmed. The first part of the paper describes the test results regarding performance as well as other parameters affecting daily operation of the GT power plant. The second part of the paper describes the findings and conclusions regarding packaging, including suitability for fast track projects.
