An urban river renewed - denver's south platte river

The Denver area was first settled on the banks of the South Platte River near its confluence with Cherry Creek in 1859. The river was the lifeblood for the new settlement in this semiarid mile high plains region located within view of the majestic Rocky Mountains. The river provided water most importantly to drink and for crop irrigation,a nd also game and wood for food and shelter could be found along its floodplain.
