Aluminum 6061 alloy is widely used in automotive industry for structural parts, especially for hot forging applications. However, current automotive environments require better mechanical properties for less weight. In this study, compositional modification of billet-cast 6XXX alloy is investigated in terms of mechanical and metallurgical properties. The major elements modified were magnesium, silicon and manganese and mass production heat treatment conditions were applied. Developed new 6XXX aluminum alloy showed highly elevated mechanical strength around 400MPa in tensile strength with good elongation value.
