The developments of the automotive engines have been required for high power, light weight, low fuel consumption and clean environment. As a result, the bearing load has been increasing and the housing stiffness has been decreasing. However, the performances of the connecting rod bearing in the engines are greatly influenced due to the stiffness of the connecting rod. Therefore, the effects which the change of the rod shape in the connecting rod exert on the bearing performance were studied by using elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory. The stiffness of the rod side on connecting rod were changed in parametric shape.
