In this research, in order to analyze the heat loss in detail under homogeneous and stratified operations, plural numbers of the heat flux sensors were installed in the wall surface of cylinder head and piston. And the heat flux correspondent to the crank angle was measured. In homogeneous operation, the heat flux on each measuring point relatively was uniform. In stratified operation, the heat flux of the measuring points near the spark plug were approximately 2 times higher than the heat flux of periphery.
