Requirements for a 4WD Chassis Dynamometer Performance and its Applicability to Emission Tests and Fuel Economy Tests (1st Report) - Fundamental Requirements and Evaluation Method for a 4WD Chassis Dynamometer Technology

Type approval tests for 4WD vehicles are currently performed under the condition that the 4WD systems are converted into 2WD operation. However, this conversion can not prove the equivalence of the engine load to the ordinary 4WD driving conditions. Furthermore, some 4WD vehicles have technical difficulty converting to 2WD. In order to clarify the technology requirements of 4WD-CHDY system applicable to emission tests and fuel economy tests, the authors analyzed experimental results measuring four wheel's load and revolution status from the 4WD chassis dynamometer (4WD-CHDY) tests. In addition, evaluation methods for 4WD-CHDY control performance were considered.
