With a conventional hydraulic brake system, the braking feel is affected by the friction characteristics of the brake pad, among other factors. Furthermore, in a cooperative braking control system with both regenerative braking and friction braking, changes in such friction characteristics can cause unintentional deceleration fluctuations. To suppress such fluctuations, we designed a deceleration feedback control system using two-degree-of-freedom control and model reference control. This paper describes the deceleration control system and shows its effectiveness based on experimental results obtained with a vehicle fitted with a brake-by-wire system.
