PRESSURE OXIDATION PERFORMANCE AT PORGERA: 1995 AND 1996

The success of the autoclave oxidation circuit at Porgera in exceeding the design criteria, can be attributed to judicious manipulation of the critical hydrometallurgical parameters: namely temperature; pressure; and the oxygen, quench water, and steam rates. Future performance improvements from the Porgera autoclaves are anticipated to be from fine tuning, rather than from major changes in the operating conditions. The throughout will be maximized with consistent autogenous operation to fulfill production requirements.
