摘要

Desender and Turin (1989) estimated that 142 (34%) of the 419 ground beetle species in the Netherlands and adjoining countries were endangered to varying degrees. Changes in geographic distribution which have occurred during the last century are attributed to either climate change (Hengeveld 1985) or habitat fragmentation caused by increased urbanization and intensification of agriculture (Turin & den Boer 1988). Desender et al, (1994) concluded that it was the loss of specific habitat types associated with the intensification of agriculture, and not climate change, that had caused rare species to become rarer and common species to become more abundant.
