The stud welding has the advnatages of Simple operation and low cost, so stud welding has bene used to fasten such things as instrument panels, chairs, ornament and etc. onto the car body in almost every car manufacturer. To improve the ability of anticorrosion, the car body is almost made of galvanized steel. As a low-melting point material, zinc is apt to cause cracks and gas holes in the welding joint. Thus, the weldability of galvanized steel is poor. Additional, to ensure the ability of the anticorrosion, it can not destroy the galvanized film whose area is bigger than stud's sectional area. And we must ensure that the quantity of deformation is very little. Traditional heating method of fixed energy in discharge stud welding and arc stud welding can not guarantee the joint quality in galvanized steel stud welding. A new stud welding technique of multistage heating is introduced in this paper and a stud welder using this technique is prduced, which can meet the special demands of galvanized steel stud welding used in car body.
