Students are quite intimidated by some of the mathematics to which they are exposed in introductory courses in electromagnetis. If one presents them with the principles and allows them to use symbolic programming languages, such as Maple, in these courses, the fear factor is minimized. They must still learn to set up the problem, but the more difficult mathematics is then not such a problem.
