Advances in diesel fuel injection control are required to address global emissions requirements on the next generation of diesel engine systems. This has resulted in a plethora of new electronic fuel injector configurations. Each of these configurations includes a unique set of advantages and disadvantages. The challenge to the fuel system electronics designer is to quickly develop and evaluate all potential configurations and determine suitable electronic circuitry. Often, preprototype development cycles typical in this industry do not allow for comprehensive analytical design efforts. This drives a need for rapid "simulation-based" analyses that minimizes development time while maximizing circuit compliance. This paper establishes a process for evaluating circuit designs via simulation, introduces state-of-the-art simulation processes, and demonstrates the efficacy of the results.
