摘要

The mammalian kidney is a very complex organ, both anatomically and flinctionally, and plays an important role in the control and regulation of homeostasis. The cortex forms the major part of the kidney and receives 80 % of the tissue blood supply, which itself receives 25 % of the cardiac output, and in conjunction with the organic molecule concentrating abi;ity of this organ, predisposes the tissue to the toxicity of blood borne xenobiotics, and the cortex in particular. In addition, xenobiotics are delivered to the medulla and because of the anatomy of the vasa rectae and the loop of Henle, can become trapped by the countercurrent system in this region of the nephron.
