Implantable biosensors could be a plausible way to continuously monitor blood glucose levels, provided they exhibit long-term stability and means to establish telemetry.~(1-4) However, their potential applications remain largely unexploited due to the negative tissue responses such as biofouling, inflammation, tissue fibrosis, and calcification generated by the implantation of such devices.~5 Other problems such as electrical short, signal drifts and need for continuous calibration can lead to device malfunctioning and eventually failure.
