SELF REGULATION OF LOADINGS FOR SUGAR CANE ROAD TRANSPORT

While available land to grow sugar cane for increased factory peaks is situated at greater distances from the factory or point of rail pick up, the use of road transport is increasing. If the distance travelled and quantity of cane transported is of sufficient magnitude, a program of self regulated loading concession can be developed. Queensland Transport has developed a system whereby loads above regulation may be carried and controlled with little intervention from the Department. Excessive loading is controlled by a self-imposed penalty system which allows higher legal payloads of cane to be carried resulting in a cost saving in harvesting and transport.
