A time-dependent model is developed to study adsorption/desorption in a two-dimensional, axisymmetric packed-bed column. The macroscopic flow, heat and mass transfer analysis is based on Forchheimer-Brinkman extended D'Arcy's flow model in porous media and nonthermal equilibrium between solid particles and gas in the column. Macropore and micropore diffusion are accounted for in the pellet and crystal. The model equations are solved numerically using a finite-volume method. The predictions are compared with published data for the purpose of validating the mathematical model. The results of parametric studies are reported for gaining understanding of heat and mass transfer processes in an adsorption/desorption column needed for designing and optimizing a pressure-temperature swing adsorption system.
