The characteristic features of birefringence, light absorption, optical activity, and the effects due to external influences (temperature, pressure, electric fields and X-ray irradiation, as well as their gradients) are studied in the IC crystals of A2BX4 group. It is shown that different types of interaction between defects and structural elements (pinning , viscous interaction, nucleation and annihilation of the phase solitons or commensurate-incommensurate states, the so-called discommensurations) manifest themselves in the anomalies of Uae optical phenomena in IC phases.
