(256) EDUCATIONAL COMPUTER CARD GAMES ACROSS DISCIPLINES DURING THE LAST DECADE

Educational Computer Card Games have been designed to support the learning of various disciplines.Hence, this review paper examines the literature on educational computer card games that were usedin primary and secondary education, in respect to the discipline and the specific learning subject theyrefer to. Search terms identified 52 papers referring in educational computer card games during thelast decade which were limited in 26 focusing in primary and secondary education. The findingsrevealed that reviewed educational computer card games are used to enhance learning in variousdisciplines, namely: computer science, mathematics, science, language, foreign language, health, andhistory. In specific cases, interdisciplinary as well as content-independent approaches weresuggested. In addition, the reviewed educational computer card games were used in both educationallevels in question, with primary being the first one and afterwards secondary while, in most games, thesubjects under discussion were curriculum oriented. Consequently, a global perspective for whatresearchers have done so far in the field of educational computer card games is provided as well as afactual basis for the future development and adoption of educational computer card games, in acreative way, by teachers, professors and game-designers. Moreover, an interesting approachneeding further investigation is the content-independent educational computer card games whichcould be easily adapted in diverse matters.
