The Bologna process has led to the adaptation of the educational system of universities, throughintroducing a system of learning competencies or skills that from a theoretical standpoint, seeks abetter student preparation, and other objectives such as recognition of university degrees within EHEA(European Higher Education Area).In this new educational system have been incorporated competencies that promote independentlearning by students to the detriment of the lectures than before were more usual. However,autonomous learning of the students must not to be achieved regardless of the professor?s direction,in any case, since his role is imperative to guide the students to get these aims.The previous autonomous learning must mean that there is much more active involvement of studentsin the classroom sessions because, previously, the student has developed an individual learningactivity. But the success of this system in order to actually reach the intended skills by the studentsdepends largely on the professor?s role that has to be able to guide properly students in the previousphase of independent learning. For all those reasons, it is necessary to change the role of theprofessor completely in the classroom, inasmuch as he has to give some initial guidelines that allowstudent independent learning to meet the expectations of reaching the skills provided in the curriculaof current educational system. Through an analysis of the requirements of autonomous learning, thispaper aims to find out to what extent the professor must change its traditional role, from what weanticipate that tutoring and coaching activities are essential in this new way of teaching in order toovercome those challenges so that they must gain prominence.
