(1047) IMPACT OF HIGHER EDUCATION ON WOMEN IN UNDERSTANDING ABOUT SOCIAL VALUES AND RIGHTS

Education is a process of socialization, which brings change in the behavior of individuals andempowers them to learn to live with dignity and freedom. Through the process of education, humanbeings develop abilities, skills and attitudes that help them to modify their behavior according to thesocial, economic and political demands of their environment.In this paper, the author's study aimed at investigating the role and awareness of higher education inunderstanding of social respect and values in women.The major objectives of the study were:(1) To find out the impact of higher education on women in developing understanding about theirvalues and rights;;(2) To study the extent to which women who acquired higher education enjoy their rights insociety.The entire population of the study was all female teachers and students of Kohat University of Scienceand Technology (KUST), Kohat. Among them twenty female teachers and fifty students wererandomly selected were included in the sample of the study. After going through the relevant literaturea questionnaire was developed. For data the researcher himself in the reachable universitiesadministered collection the questionnaire validated with the help of university teachers and studentsand the procedure of mailing was adopted for the rest of the universities taken in the sample. Datacollected through above mentioned instrument was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted using Chi-Square as a statistical tool, in the light of the objectives of the study. On the basis of finding the mainconclusion were made the study indicated that majority of respondents revealed that women were notenjoying their marital rights according to their own desires. Parents did not spend equal money ongirl's education and had no freedom of choice and expression. Moreover a bulk of the universityfemale teachers and students were aware of their rights, responsibilities and their household role fornurturing their children and adjustment in their families. In spite of this knowledge they were unable toachieve desired status in the society.
