Nuclear power plants across the U.S. must become more efficient in their operations toremain cost competitive with alternative energy sources. Data driven condition monitoring formaintenance provides a promising avenue for reducing the operational costs. A critical element todata driven condition monitoring is effective visualizations to convey actionable information tothe operator to support their decision making and enable preventative maintenance withoutcausing the plant to come offline and lose revenue. This paper describes the state of visualizationin the current fleet or nuclear power plants, the existing visualization technologies and techniquesthe nuclear industry can embrace now, and cutting-edge or state-of-the-art visualization techniquesthe nuclear industry should invest time and money in researching and developing to enable moreefficient condition monitoring for maintenance activities.
