Smart pressure and temperature transmitters emerged in the 1980's and have continued to evolve over the past 30 years. They evolved from simple analog process variable generators to increasingly sophisticated microprocessor-based 'Smart' transmitters. Modern devices are full of new technology including: 1. Improved performance and stability, 2. New transmitter capabilities, 3. Process, power and transmitter diagnostics. This paper will provide a guideline for selecting, installing and maintaining modern pressure and temperature transmitters.
