The Technology Information-Seeking Behaviors of School Librarians

The purpose of this poster is to present the results of a study implemented with 448 school librarians, designed to understand their technology information seeking behaviors. The results indicate that school librarians' primary source of information about technology are school district professional development opportunities. Other popular activities for learning about technology include establishing personal learning communities and attending conferences and events from professional organizations. While most (54.3%) of the participants attended professional development 3 or more times a year, most of them did not survey teachers and students about their technology needs. Just 49.7% of the respondents participated in the technology planning process at their schools. These results are important for understanding how to design degree program and continuing education opportunities that prepare school librarians for their technology implementation responsibilities. QR codes will be embedded in the poster to share additional resources about the school librarian's role in implementing technology in schools.
