Humic acids from soils are fundamental to the behavior of organic matter (OM), due to its chelating properties, by the existence of multiple functional groups. Considering the inhibitory effect of copper (Cu) on the catalytic activity of cytosolic glutathione S - transferases (CGST), this work studies the interaction of Cu with humic acids and its effect on CGST enzymatic activity from rat liver. CGST was exposed to a mixture of humic acids 0.1 g/mL and increasing concentrations of Cu to 100 mM , and then be incubated for a minimum of 2 h. Overall, the results indicate that the humic acids have poor effect on CGST, with values of IC50 = 10 ug / mL. For Cu an IC50 close to 20 uM was determined. It was established that the addition of humic acid was able to protect 40% of the catalytic activity of the enzyme inhibitory effect induced by Cu
